Before your Stay at OVGU

INCOMING Welcome Letter

Dear Erasmus+ & Exchange Students,
dear Freemovers,

We are delighted to welcome you to our university, at the Faculty of Economics and Management, and to have you as part of our student community soon!
Before your arrival, there are several important preparations to make, including organizing your Learning Agreement. This portal is designed to help you navigate our university, Faculty and through our study program website, and to inform you about specific regulations.

All necessary information about modules, classes, important dates, and introductory sessions can be found on our ISP homepage. Please be sure to check out the On-Boarding and Study Documents section, where you will find study materials, schedules, info sessions, video tutorials, and more.

Important Regulations:

In accordance with the Lisboan Convention, exchange students enrolled in a master’s program within our Faculty are only permitted to take master’s courses. Bachelor students may choose between bachelor’s and master’s courses. However, we do not recommend undergraduate students to enroll in master modules, as these are very challenging. Examinations can only be retaken one semester later, which might pose difficulties and extra stress for students with a short stay.

Learning Agreement Before Arrival @ OVGU:

The up-dated module offerings for the upcoming semester are published approximately six weeks to one month before the semester begins (September for winter, March for summer). If you need to prepare your Learning Agreement in advance, please select modules from the list of PERMANTLY MODULES , so called compulsory modules (see the program structures on the ISP homepage for an overview). After your arrival in Magdeburg, you will be able to choose your modules from the current semester’s offerings and fill out a Change of Learning Agreement, which we will sign accordingly.

Seminars:

Please note, that our SEMINARS require separate application and registration, which have strict deadlines. Registration must be completed in advance, and only registered students can be assigned a place. Seminar participation cannot be confirmed on the “Learning Agreement Before Arrival.” Therefore, we recommend that you arrive, review the module options, apply for seminars, complete your registration, and then fill out the Change of Learning Agreement for our signature.

Recommendations:

To avoid any issues, we advise you to complete the “Learning Agreement BEFORE ARRIVAL” using only compulsory courses offered through the ISP study programs.

On-Boarding Week & Session:

Once enrolled as an OVGU student, you are invited to participate in our On-Boarding Week and Session, scheduled during the first week of the semester (this session is also available online year-round). During this time, you can learn more about modules, examination registration, and other important topics. After registering for exams (usually four weeks after classes start), you can submit your registration transcript and the Change of Learning Agreement for our signature.

Additional Information:

Please note that OVGU GRADE TRANSCRPITS will be sent to your home university at the end of September or March (end of the semester at OVGU). Keep this in mind, especially if you are in your final semester, and your studies at home conclude at the end of August or February.

The Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) offers a wide range of courses taught in English. A list of current semester modules is available in the [INCOMING GUIDE].

Stay updated by visiting the FAQs on the OVGU homepage or following us on Instagram: @ispofficeovgu.

Mentoring Program:

FEM exchange students are also welcome to apply for our higher semester student mentoring program — the SIMP-SON Buddy Program.

We look forward to welcoming you and wish you a successful semester!
