Specialization

In each specialization, IMME prepares students for the future challenges of these specific areas of management. Using mathematical tools, strategic planning, and psychological insights, IMME helps students to understand the numbers, games, and people that affect businesses and organizations around the world. Students can choose between a wide variety of compulsory elective modules and gain this way their specialization.

Students graduating from IMME with a specialization in International Management develop a comprehensive understanding of strategic decision-making, including strategy formulation and implementation used within multinational corporations. Students gain insights into cultural challenges faced in international business situations and develop a broad skillset to deal with them successfully. Moreover, the International Management specialization provides students with extensive knowledge on how to manage innovation in developed markets as well as emerging markets. The acquired competencies prepare IMME graduates for careers in strategy departments of national and multinational corporations on the upper and top management level, in strategic consultancies, and in business development at new ventures as well as established corporations.

The Marketing specialization in IMME provides students with a thorough mathematical understanding of marketing research and analysis, including the evaluation of communication. Moreover, IMME graduates with a Marketing specialization accumulate detailed knowledge in the fields of consumer behavior, interactive marketing, and market research. The competencies acquired in this IMME specialization qualify graduates for upper and top-level jobs in market research and marketing management, both at locally and globally operating corporations.

The IMME graduates with a specialization in Entrepreneurship acquire comprehensive knowledge in planning, creating, and successfully growing businesses. The underlying mathematical and game-theoretic structure provides students in the Entrepreneurship specialization with the scientific tools needed to create sustainable social and for-profit enterprises. A brief introduction to the educational system in Germany

The university system in Germany is based on a strong self-organizing structure, which includes familiarizing yourself with the study handbook and regulations. Students should be very responsible, organized, and flexible to ensure that they can finish the program successfully. A typical study week involves approximately seven lectures of 90 minutes each, plus two or three tutorials. Prior to and after attending lectures, students are required (approx. 3 hrs/wk per class) to independently study in order to expand and reinforce their understanding of the material introduced in class.

Students must expect a weekly workload of 22 to 26 hours of classroom studies, including lectures to learn new concepts and methods, tutorials to discuss concepts and practice methods, and seminars to apply the knowledge of concepts and methods by writing an academic paper and giving a presentation in a teamwork project.
