Otto-von-Guericke University: modern campus, great teachers, feel welcome!

Taisa, Moldova

Taisa BotanI believe that the IBE bachelor’s program was a lucky ticket for me. In addition to the friendly, international environment which provided me with an unforgettable and eye-opening experience, I had the opportunity to gain a solid base for my future development in the field of business economics. After almost three years of studying International Business and Economics at the Otto-von-Guericke University, I can say that I am very thankful for choosing namely this study program.

Raisa, Russia

TaisaThe quantitative and qualitative oriented bachelor’s program covered several management and economic subjects which provided me with a solid understanding of the business world. Great teachers and a wonderful campus have created an environment which welcomes students from many different cultural backgrounds and prepares them for a solid start in their career. Personally, I liked the professors, lecturers, and staff the best. Magdeburg's environment is beautiful, peaceful, and comfortable, while the student community is welcoming and supportive.

Sandra, Germany

Sandra AlumniWhen I decided to study International Business & Economics (IBE), I had a lot of possibilities available to me at other German universities. However, the study program at OvGU did not only seem to convey broad knowledge of economics, but was also taught completely in English in the framework of an international environment. Having completed my bachelor’s degree, I can say with certainty that I was not deceived. My studies in IBE allowed me to gain knowledge in very different areas, such as math and statistics, accounting, law, human resource management, microeconomics, macroeconomics, marketing, and international management. A large variety of subjects helped me to discover which part of economics was of the greatest interest to me, enabling me to further specialize in this direction.

The aspect of an international environment has been another advantage of my studies in IBE. Half of my fellow students came from abroad and thus not only the language of instruction was English, but also a great deal of communication with other students happened in languages other than German. Therefore, even while studying in Germany, I felt as if I was studying abroad.

In order to improve my second foreign language as well as intercultural skills, I had the opportunity to study two semesters abroad participating in the double degree program with Kharkov, Ukraine.  My year in the Ukraine was an experience of a lifetime.

WilliamsonHaving graduated from the bachelor’s program in Management and Economics, I can honestly say that I feel well equipped to continue with my future academic and professional endeavors and am proud to consider myself an alumnus of the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg. The Faculty of Management and Economics prepares its students both in terms of quantitative and analytical foundations as well as the exacting standards of academic study. I would thoroughly recommend this program as its international focus and wonderful surroundings in the city of Magdeburg make it an ideal place to start one’s academic career.

I have never regretted my choice of the IBE program and  I would like to recommend it to those who are interested in the world of business and economics but are not familiar with the various aspects they both contain or are not sure what field to choose, say marketing, management, finance or economics. This bachelor study program guides you through the main areas of the international business world and close to your graduation, you will be able to make your choice about your prospective specialization. What is more, you will meet a lot of students coming from different corners of the world. Thus, you dive into a real international atmosphere which is a large benefit for your future professional career. Just don’t be lazy and communicate, be active and participate in all the diverse activities this university provides you with. A good location of Magdeburg and advantageous living costs make the study in this city even more appealing.

Hristiyan, Bulgaria

Hristiyan Petrov 2016The B. Sc. International Business and Economics is one of the few international programs in Germany taught entirely in English and it was a choice I will never regret. The studies, although challenging at times, provided me with fundamental knowledge in the diverse fields of economics and business administration. Moreover, the quantitative approach applied at the Faculty of Economics and Management helped me develop independent analytical thinking and considerably improved my organizational skills. The study program gives graduates a vast range of opportunities in academic research or private business in the fast-paced life of international economics. The B. Sc. International Business and Economic prepares students to be an active part of our globalized world.

My stay at the Otto-von-Guericke University was much more than just the study program. The campus offers excellent facilities, modern buildings, and a student-friendly environment. At the university, I had the chance to meet people from all over the world, explore new cultures, and expand my personal network. I can say it encouraged real personal growth for me. Additionally, I had the chance to be part of SIMP-SON (Students international mentoring program – social organizational network), our mentoring program at the faculty. I made tons of new friends, had lots of fun, and made my contribution by helping newcomers for two consecutive years. I strongly recommend to all first semester students to sign up for the program.
